Another of the 18 Do Not Press books that were re-released for their 18th anniversary (seven years back now!) and this one proved to be just as good as the others I've read ('happy birthday, turk', 'falling angel' etc)
It's starts with a viewing a video of classic uk crime film 'get carter' (including the cuts!) but halfway through the video cuts to a vintage 'stag' film and then the reader is drawn into the world of the man who made the film. set as the 50s turn into the 60s (actually early sixties but there's a good arguement in the book about when the 60's, as we think of them, actually started) in and around soho the book deals with how the 'porn' industry (and crime itself in some ways) changes rapidly. the book also deals with the politics and paranoia of the times very effectively (in this it reminded me of the excellent GB84 - David Peace). very well written and highly engaging I would highly recommend this.
