Hi Guys,
I had to go out of town for a couple of weeks to help my cousin move all the stuff out of my aunt's barn. I bought out his share of the estate and there was a ton to move. I felt like I had to help.
I've got the caretakers moved into my parent's house and that part is finally over! The caretakers moved in the 2nd of May. My son and I had to empty the house before then. After that came the job of moving my aunt's stuff out.
My parents and my aunt both lived on the same property in two separate houses. My parents lived in the BIG house and my aunt lived in a (poshly) converted barn that my grandfather built out back. Unfortunately, they failed to split the estate, so my cousin and I inherited the whole thing 60/40, with me having the 60%.
No relationship can survive that for long and I LIKE my cousin. I offered him 30 thousand for his share and he accepted. I'll probably make more money in the end, but I'll have to mess with it and it will take years. Still, it was a good deal for me.
I told the caretakers that if they restored the barn (at their own expense) I would split rent with them. What I want is to sell them the whole estate and finance it myself. That'll make me BIG money in the end. Like I say, there's plenty to deal with. I'm just happy they're paying all the bills for now. So far, they've been painting and changing out sheet-rock. They're responsible for fixing anything that breaks at their own expense, but I'm only charging them $300 a month rent.
I just hope it keeps working out.
I'm leaving for my Montana house in a couple of weeks, but I'll bring our laptop with me. I hope to have my book proposal sent off before I leave. I've been drawing as often as I could. There was about two weeks there I could barely find the time, but I've managed to complete fifteen drawings over the past 9 weeks. That's not great, but that's still two drawings a week (I'm taking out the two weeks I was actually having to move furnature). I'll post them here soon.
