personally i think this is one of the finest 'proper' crime writers in the UK today. i've read several of his RnB (roberts and brandt) books which are set in and around where i live and recently picked up the first in the jack taylor series 'the guards' whih was excellent. i've also accrued a number of his short stories over the past few years in various noir/hardboiled anthologies. for me it is the humour as well as the twists and violence an the pure story telling in his work that urges me to encorauge everyone to give bruen a go - oh and there's going to be a big budget version of his novel London Boulevard with Keira Knightly out in a year or two and then everyone will reckon they've been reading him for yeas

watched a bit of 'Blitz' the other night and found it really disjointed and odd. staham just didn't work for me as Brand.

a few comments on Bruen stuff:
-watched 'London Boulevard' and thought it was brilliant (one of the top three films I've seen so far this year). -picked up the second Jack Taylor novel 'The Killing of the Tinkers' and found it even better than the first book ('The Gaurds'). really dark stuff but had me laughing out loud at times. Really happy there are another nine Taylor books for me to read - happy noir fiend!! -i've just ordered 'the hackman blues', an early bruen i'm really looking forward to.

just finished the fourth jack taylor novel 'the dramatist' - even more noir than the last one! jack's off the booze and off the drugs and drawn into cases involving a serial killer and vigilantes while all the time battling his own demons. the last 5 pages are some of the darkest i've ever read. takes the reader over the edge into an emotional abyss.
