I've treated myself to a custom made knife. This is an ancient Germanic Seax. I designed every aspect of the knife up to a point (get it). The knife looks smaller than it is because its got a very long hilt. The blade is a heavy 15 inches long. It's made of hand-forged 1095 steel, then thrice-tempered. The blade is 1/4 inch thick at cross section. It's an older style blade, different from the broken-back seaxs so prominant during the Viking era. The hilt has a full 7 inch wood span with iron, Saxon-style, pommel and cross-guard. It has a peeened-over tang, which means the steel of the blade runs all the way through the handle and is hammered flat outside the pommel. That's the strongest construction known and historically accurate. It's single-edged, over two-feet long overall. Ben Potter is a Blacksmith out of California. He made the whole thaing at his forge. It really wasn't all that expensive. It's about like a medium-priced guitar. It would be an appropriate knife for the Saxon invasion.
