^ Started this a couple of days ago on your recommendation and am mightily impressed so far. I have a feeling you're right about it being a classic...

^ It was! Gritty and realistic, great dialogue (and dripping in metaphors).

read a few really good westerns lately - they're novellas and collections rather than novels but I thought I'd include them here; "A Wind of Knives" - Ed Kurtz, an excellent noir thriller of revenge and sexuality. "The Gospel of the Bullet" - Chris Leek, solid post civil war revenge story "Tales of a Weirder West" - Heath Lowrance, an excellent collection following Lowrance's Hawthorne character "Five Broken Winchesters" (various Zelmer Pulp Press) an above average anthology with some absolutely classic stories. "Under a Blood red Sky" - Matt Halloway, an excellent novel that I flew through in a day. revenge story with hints of the weird
I'm also working my way through the complete western short stories of Elmore Leonard
