He's been dropped by his publisher for insisting his next book be a collection rather than a novel Well, his publisher cant be that bright then, when it comes to business. If I were his publisher I would let him do whatever he wants too. After all, you know it's going to sale shed-loads. He's obviously a very successful author, with a large fan base.

Idiots. You'd think with his name he could at least have some input.

well, publishers are businesses.. and story collections dont sell.. Also Im not so sure Barker is as hot an item any more as far as bottom line sales go. Even his novels. He's a tougher read than King.. and the general reading public at large wants stupid vapid vampire serials and not Good fiction. Blame the stupid reading public once again. The culprit along with WalMart sales in the downfall of the Leisure Horror line which featured so many top-notch writers for so many years. Sure in a perfect world, his reputation alone should dictate his publisher cater to all his writing whims and experiments, but it's not a perfect world, sad but true. If people like Tom Piccirilli and others have to find smaller houses to publish their work, I guess Barker might have to as well. Be quite a coup for whichever one can snag him though...
